Built around a European consortium of 7 partners, Floatgen is a floating wind turbine demonstration project, the installation of which is planned off the coast of Le Croisic on the offshore experimentation site of the Ecole Centrale de Nantes (SEM-REV). This project which enables the performance of the turbine and floating foundation combination to be evaluated in order to gain enough experience to prepare for the up-scaling of the foundation, is being supported by the European Union as part of the FP7 programme.
Floatgen will be the first offshore wind turbine to be installed off the French coast. The floating wind turbine has been inaugurated at Saint-Nazaire harbour last 13rd October.

- To confirm the technical reliability and economic viability of the floating wind turbine with the aim of expanding the development potential of offshore deep-water wind farms and making better use of wind resources
- To demonstrate the strong potential for reducing the costs of the electricity generated by the floating wind farms
As project coordinator, Ideol is responsible for the design and engineering of the foundation as well as the subsequent construction/installation of the demonstrator equipped with a 2MW wind turbine off the coast of Le Croisic.
- Construction : 2016-2017
- Inauguration and baptism : 13rd October 2017
- Commissioning : end 2017- early 2018 (depending on weather windows)
Floatgen will be able to confirm the excellent behaviour of the floating solution under real conditions for Ideol and will offer a starting point for serial roll-out.
